She and Brad went to a doctor and showed it to him, he was baffled by the fact that the kid (Brad), indeed had it because at that time, tourette’s syndrome wasn’t a known or populardisorder yet. She saw about the tourette’s syndrome and knew that Brad had the same symptoms. Her will and determination to know what Brad had was really inspiring. She went to every library there was in the town they were at, reading every book there was about speech disorders, which I think is a very mother thing to do. His mother didn’t let the doctors’ statements about Brad affect her, so what she did was research about what was happening with Brad. His mother was with him through everything, they went to every doctor there was in town and not one of them could identify what was wrong with Brad. Many months have passed and Brad was eventually kicked out in the school he went to, obviously because of the tics he made. Jeff and Brad would always race home and spend their time together.īefore you ask, yes, in the beginning of the film neither Brad, his parents, or the people around him knew that he had tourette’s syndrome. Even his teachers thought that the reason he made noises was because he wanted to be the class clown. Tourette’s syndrome, a common neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by multiple motor tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic, is something that wasn’t recognized back in the days.
